Mercenary Tales 11.

The City-State Of Vexil.

"Around the back" says Zam the ex mercenary to the wagon driver who has just arrived before dawn.
The driver nods, and heads around to the back of the building. An empty building that the group appropriated yesterday.
Waiting around the back is Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman, and Beldane the cleric, who again is acting as Malisse's personal guard.
The driver from the Geist Trading Company tips his hat to Malisse, who is posing as a successful merchant here in the city of Vexil.
The driver and his assistant hop down off the wagon, and Malisse aka Zubutai Timaginson directs them to the boxes stacked up against the back of the building.
There's a dozen of them, two stacks of six. Almost coffin size. They are if you squint your eyes if you look at them.
Looking at them is something Beldane the cleric refuses to do. He totally ignores them, and instead looks up and down the lane that runs behind the building, and the buildings on either side of it.
The fighting cleric, along with the hordes outrider who inhabits the body of the rotund woman named Malisse, as well as the ex mercenary Zam.
Are just glad there's no noticable smell coming from the wooden boxes. That's due to a spell that's been placed on them by Helbe the elven thief.
Though Zam asks if the two employees from the Geist Trading Company need some help, from him and Beldane.
Which earns the ex mercenary a pointed look from the powerful cleric who hails from the kingdom of Nastell.
The driver and his assistant decline help, and soon have the dozen boxes on the bed of the wagon, and after the driver has Malisse sign a piece of parchment paper.
The driver, his assistant and the wagon are on the move, with the pair of horses hauling the wagon, heading off to the main airdocks of the city of Vexil, just as the sun rises in the east, on what's the first day of winter in the Southlands.
After looking up at a nearby rooftop, where of course she doesn't see anyone, though she knows someone is there.
Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman quietly says to Beldane the cleric and Zam the ex mercenary "Come on, let's go and join the others" followed by "Off to the docks".
The blurred and shielded Helbe the elven thief looks back and down, and sees that the trio of Malisse aka Zubutai the son of Timagin, Beldane the cleric and Zam the ex mercenary, are moving off.
Heading in the same direction as the loaded wagon that the young elven noble from the island principality of Laerel, has an eye on.
The elven masterthief walks across the rooftop he's on, and after glancing at Narladene the ground pixie who grips onto his right shoulder.
The blurred and shielded elven magic user shifts away, as he follows after the wagon from Geist Trading Company that's just picked up a dozen wooden boxes.
After coming on board of the airship, which is owned by his family's business, Mira Reinholt the mage after stowing his pack in one of the cabins.
Makes his way up onto the deck, where in the brightening gloom of dawn, he finds Lord Farque with Tamric Drubine the field commander, and Saanea the witch.
"Do we know which one it is?" quietly asks Mira Reinholt the mage as he looks around at the main airdocks of Vexil, on what's a cold start to winter.
"That one there" says Lord Farque who points to a circular dock, two over from the one the vessel they're on, is moored to.
"That twin masted brigantine on this side" adds the large, heavily armoured deathlord of Farque who continues in a dry tone with "Not the usual fucking transporter, as it's got magetubes fore and aft".
The once powerful mage who spots the airship in question, nods his hooded head, then slightly winces when the undead warlord adds "And they've got an escort ship" followed by "The one next to it, which can only be described as a fucking frigate".
The Vexilian mage in exile shakes his hooded head, then mutters "Hell" the mage Reinholt follows that with "They're not taking any chances are they?".
The lord and ruler of the Lands Farque who has the name of Draugodrottin, that his people also know him by, just grunts in response to that from the practitioner of magic, who is also a highly skilled swordmaster.
Then Saanea the witch, who has had her eyes closed, opens them and quietly says "They're loading the transporter at the moment".
The spellcaster who hails from the Maldin Hills, which are on the coast of the Southlands, then says "Some of it is legitimate cargo, goods as such" she continues with "But most of it is weapons and armour in those nondescript boxes they've been using".
The attractive practitioner of magic pauses for a few moments as she briefly closes her eyes again, then after opening them, she says "Our, er, um goods".
Both Mira Reinholt and Tamric Drubine lift an eyebrow at that, while behind the faceplate of his full helm, the undead warlord sourly smiles at that.
"Is on it's way" continues Saanea the witch, who follows on from that with "Nearing the airdocks" she then adds "On the main street from the east".
Lord Farque then says "The royal thief is following it" he continues on from that with "Beldane, Zam and Zubutai will be here shortly".
The mage Reinholt slightly shakes his hooded head, as the lord and ruler of the Lands Farque always refers to Zubutai as Zubutai, no matter what body the barbarian hordesman is in.
Which is ironic, considering it's the lord of the death realm who is the one who puts the hordes outrider in whatever particular body Zubutai Timaginson is occupying at any given time.
The four of them continue to observe the airship they'll be following later this morning, well two airships if you count the escort for the brigantine.
"Think that frigate will be a problem?" quietly asks Tamric Drubine the field commander, which is exactly what Mira Reinholt was thinking.
The lord and ruler of the Lands Farque who has the elven name of Des'tier, which translates to The Destroyer.
Shakes his full helmed head no, then he quietly says "It shouldn't be" he continues with "Just as long as we keep our distance, and keep out of sight".
The large heavily armoured deathlord pauses for a moment or two, then he quietly adds "Dalin is back".
The other three look behind them, and up onto the top of the circular dock, walks Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy who has hurried up the steps.
Once onboard, the elf who is originally from the principality of Alínlae, makes his way forward, to where the four of them are on the small bow deck.
Speaking in his native language, Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy says "They're not only transporting weapons and armour, and other goods".
The elf who is a commander in the Scouts and Rangers division of the Armies of Farque, who has just been over to the dock, where the airship they're keeping an eye on is located.
Continues with "There's a mercenary group going with them" followed by "Just over twenty of them, they're waiting down on the ground".
The four others look down to where Dalinvardèl Tanith or Dalin as he's more commonly called by the others in the group, has pointed.
And they spot the mercenary group in question, who are doing their best to keep out of the way of the dock workers, on what's a busy morning, for the first day of winter.
Lord Farque looks at Saanea the witch, and he asks the practitioner of magic from the Maldin Hills "Those other goods they're loading up".
The undead being pauses for a moment, before continuing with "They wouldn't be supplies would they?" after briefly pausing again, he adds "Say for a military force?".
The attractive looking spellcaster is silent for a moment or two, before she answers the deathlord of Farque with "They are".
Draugodrottin grunts, while Mira Reinholt the mage mutters "By the shape of fire" while Tamric Drubine slightly winces, and Dalinvardèl Tanith sourly smiles.
"Now what are they up to?" quietly says the young field commander Tamric Drubine, it's the lord of the death realm who replies with "It's obvious what they're up to".
The lord and ruler of the Lands Farque follows that with "The question should be, what are they intending to do with the army they're amassing".
As the others all think on that, Helbe the elven thief appears next to those who have gathered on the small bow deck, of the packet ship that's part of the Reinholt Trading Company's fleet.
"They're loading our er surprise onboard right now" says Helbe the elven thief, who follows that with "All in the forward cargo hold".
Des'tier nods his full helmed head, then after glancing back, and seeing who is making their way around the top of the circular airdock, towards the single masted airship.
The undead warlord says to the mage Reinholt "When Beldane, Zam and Zubutai get onboard, have the captain give the order to cast off".
The large, heavily armoured deathlord continues with "I want a bit of distance between us and them" as he gestures towards the pair of airships they're observing on one of the nearby airdocks.
Of the pair, one is previously a fighting ship that's been converted to a transporter, while the other one is a straight up warship.
Once the powerful cleric in the church of Glaine, the rotund woman who is really a hordes outrider from the southern tundra, and the ex mercenary who hails from the City Of Ruins.
Come aboard, the once powerful mage has a quiet word with the captain of the small airship that's part of the Reinholt Trading Company's air fleet.
The packet ship, so called because it's primary task is to transport packets of documents at speed, right across the central region of The Southlands.
Is soon in the air, and flying over the city of Vexil, heading north, though more to the northeast as it circles in that direction.
In the cold early morning sunshine of what's the first day of winter, Dorc da Orc makes his way up on deck.
He's soon followed by his bitter rival sir Percavelle Le Dic, who in turn is followed by Shur Kee the monk and Lisell Maera the scout.
Both of whom are keeping an eye on the large ork from the southern polar region of the world, and the noble born knight who hails from the kingdom of Druvic.
"The escort ship is off" says Helbe the elven thief, who along with Lord Farque, Mira Reinholt the mage and Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman.
Are at the aft rail, a further bit behind the captain of the packet ship, and the helmsman at the wheel.
The four of them are looking back at the main airdocks of the city of Vexil, which is located in the north of the massive city.
The Reinholt Trading Company's packet ship, which is just gone over the northern wall of the city, is heading as much to the east as it is to the north.
But the warship that's part of the Geist Trading Company is heading directly north, so now is the twin masted brigantine which has just risen up from the airdock which it was moored to.
"And there goes the transporter" adds Mira Reinholt who like his fellow spellcaster, is speaking in the elven language.
The four of them, the lord and ruler of the Lands Farque, and three members of his personal council, continue to watch the pair of airships owned by the Geist Trading Company that are heading north.
Until Draugodrottin finally says in elvish "Now we wait as we follow them" he continues on with "And see what they intend to do with this army of mercenaries they're gathering" . . . . . .

Mercenary Tales 10.

The City Of Vexil.

"Halváir". Great. Sourly mutters Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy as he looks around at where he is. The spy Tanith looks over at Tovis the war engineer, who just shrugs his shoulders. As to say, what can I do about it?
The spy who is originally from the elven principality of Alínlae lets out a sigh, then he quietly says in the common language to the war engineer "Might as well start unloading them".
Tovis who can hardly see what's going on, as it's nighttime, and there's no nearby street lamps, just grunts in agreement with the elven spy.
The two of them go around to the back of the wagon, and start unloading the boxes from the bed of the wagon.
As he peers about to see if he can spot anything as they unload the wooden boxes from the back of the wagon, Tovis the war engineer quietly says "At least we don't have to dig them up".
And although Dalinvardèl Tanith or Dalin as he's more commonly called by those who know him well, nods his hooded head in agreement with what the war engineer just said. He's not looking forward to what's about to happen.
"A dozen" quietly says the war engineer who is originally from the kingdom of Druvic, he follows that with "Will that be enough?".
"I hope so" is the quiet reply of the elf who hails from the principality of Alínlae, where he served in one of the more prominent noble houses of his homeland.
"Let's face it" quietly adds Dalinvardèl Tanith or Dalin as he's more commonly called by the others in the group.
"Even one is too much" continues the elven spy who is a senior commander in the Armies of Farque.
Then the spy Tanith murmurs to the young war engineer "Here they come". And a few moments later Lord Farque along with Dorc da Orc walk out of the darkness from a nearby lane.
"Ready then are we?" asks Lord Farque as he looks at the boxes, that have a specific shape, that Dalin and Tovis have taken out of the back of the wagon. Both the war engineer and the elven spy respond with a nod of their heads.
The undead warlord steps forward, then after glancing at the other three, he tells the trio "Turn". They turn around and face the other way, though the ork warleader has to be told again by the lord and ruler of the Lands Farque in orkish, and in a forceful manner.
They hear a ripping sound, as if the ground is being torn open. And Dalinvardèl Tanith and Tovis the war engineer glance sideways at one another, as the wagon's horses nervously whicker.
Then as they start smelling a rather strong pungent smell, which to Dorc da Orc's sense of smell, smells rather pleasant.
The elven spy who is a commander in the Armies of Farque, and the young man from the kingdom of Druvic, who is also a commander in those armies, both grimace as they know exactly what that smell means.
Then the three of them hear Lord Farque say to them "You can turn around now" followed by "They're ready".
The trio turn around, and though Tovis can't exactly see what's happened, both the elven spy and the ork weaponsmith can clearly see in the darkness what has just happened.
And Dorc da Orc starts salivating, and murmurs "Ripey" while Dalinvardèl Tanith winces and mutters "Shit".
"Come along" says the large, heavily armoured deathlord, who follows on from that with "The sooner you get them packed up, the fucking better it will be".
Elsewhere in the city of Vexil this night, Helbe the elven thief is in the offices of one of the main warehouses of the Geist Trading Company.
In fact the large warehouse that Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman and Beldane the cleric visited.
The elven masterthief who is blurred and shielded, is going through a number of shipping manifests.
And in the darkness of the office, the young elven noble from the island principality of Laerel finds the one he wants.
And with a slight wave of his right hand he changes it, before he returns it to the pile on the tray he found it in.
With a shake of his hooded head, the highly talented elven magic user who thinks the Geist Trading Company should have a better method for their pick ups and deliveries.
Makes his way over to the slightly ajar window shutter which he entered through. The elven master assassin feels Narladene the ground pixie land upon his right shoulder.
Then the member of the royal family that rules the principality of Laerel, glances outside and shifts away as he other things to do this night to make sure the plan goes smoothly.
"This is the place" says Lisell Maera the scout as she holds up the lamp she's carrying to get a better look.
"They don't need to come in" says Tamric Drubine the field commander, next to him, Saanea the witch nods in agreement.
"They can pick them up from the back here" adds the young noble who is originally from the feudal kingdom of Sarcrin, and is now one of the most senior commanders in the Armies of Farque.
The back door to the building they're behind opens, and Beldane the cleric walks out, and he quietly says "Empty inside".
Zam the ex mercenary walks out behind the powerful cleric, and nods in agreement with the member of the church of Glaine.
"We'll have them here" says Tamric Drubine or Tam as he's more commonly called by those who know him well.
Looking to where field commander Drubine points, the fighting cleric nods in agreement, then he says "They'll be here pretty soon" followed by "I should probably get going".
Tam lifts an eyebrow, then he nods in understanding and says to the powerful spellcaster who hails from the kingdom of Nastell "Yeah that would probably be best".
After the powerful cleric in the church of Glaine disappears by way of a teleportation spell, the others in the light of the lamp being held by the scout Maera, look at one another.
Then Lisell Maera or Lis as more often than not, she's called by the others in the group, dryly says "Can't blame him" followed by "I'm not even a cleric and I don't want to be around them".
Tamric Drubine, Saanea the witch and Zam the ex mercenary all nod in agreement with the scout who is originally from the city-state of Brattonbury.
Then after Lis turns down the lamp so that just a sliver of light comes from it, the four of them wait for the others to turn up.
It's not to long before they hear a horse drawn wagon out on the street in front of the building they're behind.
A wagon being driven by Tovis the war engineer, who has Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy on the wagon seat next to him.
Which is brought around to the back of the building, after Zam the ex mercenary goes around to the front of the building, and tells Tovis where to take the wagon. A wagon that has a dozen long, almost coffin like boxes in the back of it.
Mira Reinholt the mage returns to the inn after he's gone and organized some transportation for the group tomorrow.
The once powerful mage sits at the corner table where Shur Kee the monk and sir Percavelle Le Dic are seated at.
It was best that the large, heavily armoured knight remained behind tonight whilst the others are out, busy doing a number of things.
And the short, statured monk volunteered to remain behind, to keep an eye on the nobleman who is originally from the kingdom of Druvic.
The mage Reinholt who has taken out a scroll he purchased in the afternoon, from a curio shop suggested to him by his fellow spellcaster, Helbe the elven thief.
The practitioner of magic who is a born and breed Vexilian, skims through the scroll, and slightly nods as he finds something useful.
Then the mage, who is also a highly skilled swordmaster, rolls up the scroll, and returns it to one of the inner pockets of his cloak.
After sir Percavelle Le Dic, in his usual, overly loud voice says "I do say, wot" followed by "There be that chubby woman who doth been hanging around us of late".
The exiled Vexilian mage looks up, and sees Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman making her way across the common room to their table.
The slightly rotund woman is followed by Beldane the cleric, who has just returned to the inn, and followed Malisse inside.
"Find what you need, this late at night?" quietly asks Mira Reinholt the mage once his fellow council member sits down next to him.
"I did" replies Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman, who along with the mage Reinholt looks over at Beldane the cleric, who sits opposite them, and asks the fighting cleric "That place suitable?".
"It is" replies Beldane the cleric, who after glancing sideways at sir Percavelle Le Dic and Shur Kee the monk, quietly says "I know, and they were just about to show up just after I left the others".
In response to the mage Reinholt quietly asking him "They get what they need?" followed by "You know, at the".
The highly skilled swordmaster grunts at hearing that, and Malisse aka Zubutai Timaginson nods her head, then dryly says in elven "Glad I wasn't around for that".
"Same" murmurs the spellcaster who was once the most powerful mage of his generation, to be found anywhere in the Southlands.
"That's always creeped me out" adds the Vexilian mage in exile, who can't help but shiver as he thinks about it.
Then the practitioner of magic, who is a member of the personal council to Lord Farque, nods his hooded head, and quietly says "I did".
In reply to his fellow councilor, Malisse aka Zubutai the son of Timagin, quietly asking him "Were you able to get one?".
"It's a packet ship" says Mira Reinholt who continues on with "Small, but fast" followed by "Perfect for what we need".
The spellcaster, who at one time, was so powerful that he could of become a battlemage, just the second such mage in the last century in the Southlands.
Then dryly says "Only got a discount because I'm a family member" the mage Reinholt follows that with "If I wasn't, I would've had to a pay a fortune to hire it".
The rotund woman, who is really the hordes outrider Zubutai Timaginson, who just happens to inhabit this particular body. Just grins and shakes her head at hearing that from the practitioner of magic, who is also a highly skilled swordmaster.
Then Malisse nods her head, when her fellow councilor, Mira Reinholt dryly says "It'll all be for nothing if the royal thief doesn't get things done".
"I'm sure he's got it sorted" says Malisse aka Zubutai the barbarian hordesman, who then silently adds, I hope.
Just then, others in the group start returning to the inn that they've been staying at, whilst here in the city of Vexil.
Tamric Drubine the field commander enters the inn, along with his lover Saanea the witch. They're followed by Zam the ex mercenary, and Lisell Maera the scout.
The four of them make their way through the common room, to where the others are already seated.
Not long afterwards, and Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy and Tovis the war engender engineer enter the inn, and head to where the others are sitting in the common room.
Just a short while later, and Lord Farque himself, along with Dorc da Orc make their way into the inn.
And head to the tables where the rest the group are. As they do, the large ork who is a general in the Armies of Farque, calls out to the innkeeper for booze and food, and plenty of it.
Once the undead warlord sits down at the table, next to where Mira Reinholt and Malisse aka Zubutai Timaginson are sitting. He asks the two of them if all is ready for tomorrow?
They both reply with yes, and the mage Reinholt then says "I've got a ship for us". The large, heavily armoured deathlord nods his full helmed head after the exiled Vexilian mage tells him what type of airship it is.
"Now we just wait for that royal thief" quietly says Lord Farque, who continues with "Hopefully he's got everything fucking done".
Not too long later, and Helbe the elven thief enters the inn, and seeing that the others are in the common room, the highly talented elven magic user joins them.
"It's all done" says Helbe the elven thief after he takes a seat next to the lord and ruler of the Lands Farque, who asked him if he got everything done this night.
After a moments pause, the lord of the death realm quietly says "So" followed by "We'll find out what they're truly been up to over the next day or two" . . . . . .
