Autumn.
The Pit. The City of Ruins. The ancient city of Dalphene. In the neutral zone.
"They weren't too talkative" says Lisell Maera the scout as they make their way through the remains of ancient buildings.
"They weren't" says Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy, who continues with "But from the looks that passed between them, I'd say they were telling the truth".
The attractive young woman who is originally from the city-state of Brattonbury, nods her head in agreement with the elven spy who hails from the principality of Alínlae.
"So we're in agreement they're definitely not there?" asks the elven spy, who is a company commander in the scouts and rangers division of the armies of Farque.
"Agree" says Lisell Maera or Lis as she's more commonly called by the others in the group.
After the two of them hop over a broken wall, and make their way through one of the many market places here in the neutral zone of the City of Ruins.
The scout Maera, whose mother was a street prostitute in Brattonbury, and whose father. A man she never knew, or for that matter, met. Who was a sailor who plied his trade on the Great Western Ocean.
Quietly says to the spy Tanith "Think the others had any luck at the other place that the company lives".
With a slight nod of his hooded head, Dalinvardèl Tanith or Dalin as more often than not he's called by the others in the group, quietly says in reply "I'm hoping so".
The spy, who previously served in one of the more prominent noble houses of his homeland Alínlae, briefly pauses before continuing with "But i rather doubt they're there".
Lis, who like Dalin serves in the scouts and rangers division of the armies of Farque, is in agreement with the elven spy.
As they make their way through the neutral zone here in the City of Ruins. On what's a sunny, but cold autumn day down here in the pit.
Helbe the elven thief, who has spent the morning checking on the places that the group checked out yesterday.
Just incase the person they're looking for, turns up here in the neutral zone of the ancient city of Dalphene.
Is making his way from one rooftop to another, and another, and so on. Going from the crumbling and breaking rooftop of an ancient ruins.
To a fairly new roof, of a building that's one of the ancient ruins, that's been repaired.
Which is actually quite common here in the neutral zone of the City of Ruins.
He looks down, and spots Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy, and Lisell Maera the scout, making their way along one of the many streets here in this part of the pit.
The young elven noble from the island principality of Laerel, doesn't even have to eavesdrop.
Or read the minds of the elven spy from the principality of Alínlae, and the human scout from the coastal city-state of Brattonbury.
To know that they've been unsuccessful in finding the one they're searching for.
When they went to speak to those where Maygam's mercenary company, live whilst here in the neutral zone.
Well, one of the places at least. As there's another one. Less than half a mile away, where more of Maygam's company live, while they're here in this part of the giant hole in the ground.
Within which is the ancient city of Dalphene, which is more commonly called the City of Ruins.
The highly talented elven magic user, who as usual when he's out and about. Is both blurred and shielded.
Wonders how Beldane the cleric and Tovis the war engineer feared in checking up on the other place where Maygam's mercenary company live, whilst here in the neutral zone.
The grandson of the ruling prince of Laerel, suspects that they've been unsuccessful just like the spy Tanith and the scout Maera.
The elven masterthief who floats over to another rooftop as he follows Dalin and Lis.
Looks back in the direction they've come from. And quickly spots a few people who are following the elven spy and the human scout.
After the elven princeling from Laerel leaps over to another roof, he nods his hooded head as he reads the minds of the trio following Dalinvardèl Tanith and Lisell Maera.
They're from Maygam's mercenary company, and they want to know why the spy originally from the elven principality of Alínlae, and the scout who hails from the city-state of Brattonbury. Are so interested in one of their own.
As he floats over to another rooftop, the highly talented elven magic user casts a spell on Dalin.
As he steps onto the roof of a new building that's been built here in the neutral zone.
The young elven noble from the island principality of Laerel nods to himself, as he finds that the spy Tanith already knows that he and Lis are being followed.
The grandson of Prince Raendril of Laerel decides to keep an eye on Dalinvardèl Tanith and Lisell Maera as they go to meet some of the others in the group.
"How many?" quietly asks the scout Maera after they cross one of the many dry, and crumbling culverts down here in the pit.
"Pretty sure there's three of them" is the quiet reply of the spy Tanith, who like Lis is speaking in elven.
The attractive young woman originally from the city-state of Brattonbury, slightly grunts at hearing that.
Then she nods, when the elven spy who is a company commander in the scouts and rangers division of the armies of Farque, quietly tells her "I don't think they mean us any harm".
Dalin briefly pauses before he continues on with "If they had wanted to, they could of attacked us already".
The spy Tanith then adds "I'm guessing they're trying to find out who we are, and why we were asking about the one we're after".
"Makes sense" quietly says Lisell Maera as they walk around one of the circular ruins here in the pit, which someone is using as a barn.
As there's a few donkeys inside, as well as a number of chickens in wooden slat cages, and even a couple of pigs.
Dalinvardèl Tanith points away to their left, and the two of them head that way, going through one of the many markets found here in the neutral zone of the City of Ruins.
Just like Lis and Dalin, Tovis the war engineer and Beldane the cleric are making their way through the neutral zone to meet up with some of the others in the group.
The young engineer who hails from the kingdom of Druvic, and the fighting cleric from the kingdom of Nastell.
Just like the spy Tanith and the scout Maera. Were unsuccessful, when they spoke to some of those in Maygam's company, where the mercenaries live here in the neutral zone of the ancient city of Dalphene.
And just like Dalin and Lis, Tovis and Beldane find themselves being followed by some of those in Maygam's mercenary company.
"Think they'll try and attack us?" quietly asks Tovis the war engineer after they briefly pause to let a donkey drawn cart to go by.
Shaking his head, Beldane the cleric quietly says in reply "I don't think so" as they continue on their way after the cart has gone by.
"I'll find out for sure the next time i spot them" quietly adds the fighting cleric who is a member of the church of Glaine.
A god predominantly worshiped in the north of his homeland, the kingdom of Nastell.
The two of them scamper over a pile of rubble, after looking at the two ancient ruins on either side, that look like they could fall over any day now.
They walk out of what's essentially an ancient lane, and onto one of the many streets here in the so called neutral zone here in the City of Ruins.
Then the two of them glance at one another, as they hear the thuds of magetubes firing somewhere away in the distance to the north, here in the pit.
Tovis the war engineer looks up, and slightly frowns as he spots a cat up on the edge of the rooftop to their right, keeping pace with them.
The young engineer who previously served in the army of a baron Harkonin in his homeland of Druvic.
Who is now a captain in the armies of Farque, who commands one of the engineering crops.
Nudges the powerful spellcaster walking beside him, and points up to where the cat is walking along the edge of the roof.
After glancing up to where Tovis has pointed, Beldane the cleric quietly says "I'm pretty sure that's Saanea's familiar".
The war engineer who hails from the kingdom of Druvic nods, then the fighting cleric originally from the kingdom of Nastell quietly says "Yeah, definitely her familiar".
As one moment the calico cat is walking there on the rooftop to their right.
And the next moment it's gone, and there's now a bird of prey, a falcon by the looks of it, heading up into the sky above this part of the neutral zone.
The cleric in the church of Glaine then quickly glances back in the direction they've come from.
And he spots some of the mercenaries from Maygam's company they spoke to earlier, making their way from the lane further back along the street.
"Definitely being followed" quietly says the powerful cleric from the kingdom of Nastell who quickly casts a spell.
"And they're more interested in who we are, and what we're up to, concerning one of their own" adds the fighting cleric in the halfplate armour.
The young Druvician engineer walking beside him nods his head as they cut through a shell of a building on their right, and make their way onto another street here in the giant hole in the ground, within which is the ancient city of Dalphene, which is more commonly called the city of Ruins.
"Not far from that portal isn't it?" quietly asks the war engineer who is a captain in the armies of Farque.
"Yeah about fifty yards from it, on this side" is the reply of the member of the church of Glaine, referring to the spot they're meeting some of the others.
Tovis, who commands one of the engineering corps in the armies of Farque then falls silent.
As he too quickly looks back, and spots a few of the mercenaries from Maygam's company that they spoke to earlier.
It's not until after they go through another shell of a building, walk beneath an overhead aqueduct.
Then walk between a jumble of ruins, and out onto another street in this part of the neutral zone.
Does the war engineer originally from the kingdom of Druvic, quietly says "Should we lose that lot following us?".
After briefly thinking about it, Beldane the cleric quietly says "Might as well".
The powerful spellcaster looks around for a suitable looking building, then after spotting one, Beldane gestures to it, and quietly says "In there".
The two of them enter one of the ancient ruins, as they do the fighting cleric casts, and the two of them don't walk out the otherside of the ruins, though they do leave it.
Lord Farque turns around, and enters the ruins, and takes a hold of the right arm of Dorc da Orc and yanks the large ork outside.
The ork warleader scowls as he stands next to his bitter rival sir Percavelle Lé Dic and Shur Kee the monk.
Then as the ork weaponsmith is just about to complain to the undead warlord.
A gateway forms just inside of the ruins, exactly where the big, burly ork from the southern polar region of the world was standing.
Out of the gateway walks Tovis the war engineer, followed by Beldane the cleric.
"I told you not to fucking stand in there cunt" says lord Farque in the ork language as Dorc da Orc stands there scowling, while rubbing his arm where the heavily armoured deathlord grabbed him.
And the young engineer and the fighting cleric step outside of the small ruins that some of the others have been waiting infront of.
"Any luck?" asks the lord and ruler of the lands Farque.
"They weren't there" says Tovis the war engineer, who follows that with "What we did find out is that they went north with the bulk of the company".
The undead warlord nods his full helmed head, then turns and spots Dalinvardèl Tanith the elven spy and Lisell Maera the scout along with Helbe the elven thief walking this way along the narrow street.
When they get to the others, they too inform the heavily armoured deathlord, basically the exact same thing Tovis and Beldane found out.
"When the others get here, we'll head north then" states lord Farque, as once again in the distance to the north, they hear the low thud of magetubes firing here in the giant hole in the ground, within which is the City of Ruins . . . . . .
