The City Of Tuledare.
As he's done since he first got to the cathedral of Kaēvin, the young cleric Jovan Garney is up early on what's dawned as another cold autumn morning here in the city of Tuledare.
The powerful young cleric originally from the Lands Farque goes to the refractory, and is one of the first to have breakfast. After which he has a chat with the sisters Hildagar and Oldagin. Whose domain is the kitchen and refractory in the cathedral.
The powerful young spellcaster then makes his way through the cathedral after one of the young messengers informs him of something.
The practitioner of magic heads out the main front doors of the cathedral of Kaēvin, where he finds a yawning Sammit, with Oldham standing nearby.
The two church guards are on gate duty this morning, and the cleric Garney accompanies them across the large courtyard to the front gates.
After the two guards relieve the other pair who had night duty, the experienced guardsman Oldham nudges his fellow guard Sammit, and nods to the gatehouse.
With a grunt the younger guardsman follows the experienced guardsman into the gatehouse, leaving the powerful young cleric with the visitor at the gates.
"We're leaving this morning" quietly says Maiya Garney the lead scout after she greets her younger brother with a hug.
"The Fifth is returning home" adds the leader of one of the infiltration squads in the Scouts and Rangers division of the Fifth Army of Farque.
The powerful young practitioner of magic nods, and though he knew this was going to happen sooner rather than later.
He knows he will still miss his older sister Maiya, who has visited him everyday, ever since the city-state of Tuledare was defeated in the war against the city-state of Phamal.
"Will you remain with the Fifth?" asks Jovan Garney the cleric, who follows that with "Or will they send you somewhere else?".
"My squad and I are staying with the Fifth for now" replies the lead scout, who after a momentary pause, dryly adds "Though with his highness prince Helbenthril as my ultimate commander, we could end up anywhere".
The powerful young cleric nods at hearing that, as he could well imagine it could be rather hectic to have the elven princeling who is Lord Farque's envoy, as your senior army commander.
"Do you want me to give mother and father a message?" asks Maiya Garney who has enjoyed catching up with her younger brother whilst here in the city of Tuledare.
Especially considering that she had no idea that he was actually here in the capital of the city-state of Tuledare. And that war would reunite them.
"As a matter of fact I do" says the teenager who is already one of the more important members of his church, the church of Kaēvin. Even though he's only been here at the cathedral, the headquarters of his church throughout the Southlands, for less than two months.
Jovan Garney who was expecting this day, with his sister Maiya departing. Has written out a rather long message for his parents. Detailing his travels since leaving the Lands Farque when he turned sixteen.
And now his vocation, here at the cathedral of Kaēvin, along with the rest of his life, here in the city of Tuledare.
The powerful young spellcaster takes out a scroll from within his cloak, that he has wrapped tight around his half plate armour, to help ward off the chill on what's a cold autumn morning.
The cleric Garney hands the scroll to his older sister, and says "For mother and father" and tells her the basics of what it contains.
The young practitioner of magic who serves in the church of Kaēvin, the god of Scribes and Wordsmiths, then tells his older sister "There's also a spell contained in it".
Jovan Garney continues with "It's linked to mother and father, and will go off when one or the other reads it".
"Oh?" says the older of the two siblings, the lead scout in the Scouts and Rangers division of the Fifth Army of Farque, then asks her younger brother "What is it?".
With a faint smile upon his youthful face, the powerful young cleric in the church of Kaēvin tells his older sister Maiya "Thought it would be good if they saw their son too".
The scout Garney grins and nods in understanding, then she says in a wry tone of voice "Hope it doesn't scare the crap out of them".
"I was kind of hoping it does" quietly says Jovan Garney who does his best to suppress the grin that appears upon his face, and fails miserably.
Which causes his older sister Maiya to snort, and hold in the laughter that's about to burst from her. Which is a lot harder than it looks. For she has always gotten enjoyment out of the pranks, particularly the magic kind, which her younger brother Jovan has perpetrated upon their parents numerous times when the two of them were younger.
The two of them quietly talk for sometime, until finally scout Garney glances away to the right along the fairly empty street the cathedral of Kaēvin is on. She sees sergeant Blufont has stepped out from where he's been waiting, and he nods to her.
"Time for me to go" quietly says Maiya Garney, who follows that with "My ship will be departing soon".
Jovan Garney looks to where his sister has just glanced, and he spots the Farqian army sergeant in her squad.
The powerful practitioner of magic nods then quietly says to his older sister "Tell that sorcerer in your squad to hold his power within himself a bit better" he follows that with "I can sense him, but I doubt many others would".
"Will do" wryly says the scout Garney, who intends to have a chat with Carnid about that. Then because she doesn't want to start crying which she feels like doing, she embraces her younger brother and says "Stay safe little brother".
"You too sis" replies the cleric Garney, who clears his throat after they end the embrace. His sister Maiya turns and walks away, not looking back as she heads down the street to where her squad is waiting for her.
The powerful young spellcaster originally from the Lands Farque watches as Maiya's squad walk out from the lane where they've been waiting.
And he continues to watch them as they head down to the far end, the western end of the quiet street that the cathedral of Kaēvin is on.
One by one the infiltration squad led by Maiya Garney the lead scout, turn right at the far end of the street.
And Jovan Garney watches them walk away, until finally it's his sister Maiya, who stops before she walks around the corner and disappears from sight.
She looks back and the cleric Garney sees a grin upon the face of his older sister, who waves to him.
With a grin upon his own face, Jovan Garney waves in reply, until finally his sister walks around the corner, and out of sight as she follows after her squad.
As they walk through the streets of the city of Tuledare, and after she's quietly spoken to the sorcerer Carnid about what her younger brother Jovan said he should do.
Maiya Garney the lead scout nods her head in agreement with sergeant Blufont after he quietly tells her "Always difficult saying goodbye to family".
The experience company sergeant quietly continues with "I know I find it so, whenever I say goodbye to Jinsa and the girls".
"I thought your wife and daughters were glad to get rid of you?" says Maiya Garney, who follows that with "I'm sure I always hear cheering and hollering from the girls when I come around to get you".
The experienced sergeant sourly smiles, then says "That maybe so" followed in a dry tone with "But still I find it difficult to say goodbye when we depart".
Which causes the lead scout to chuckle as they make their way to the destroyed army barracks just to the west of the city center.
They pass by one of the watchtowers of the city guard which was destroyed in the brief attack that brought about the defeat of the city-state of Tuledare.
Local builders and carpenters, along with labourers are busy clearing away the rubble, as the rebuild here and across the city is well underway.
"Looks like things are on the mend here now" quietly says sergeant Blufont, who like the lead scout, is speaking in elven.
"Yes" says Maiya Garney, who after a brief pause, adds "Yes they are" followed by "Which is a good thing as the Phamalians didn't want to destroy this place, they just didn't want to be attacked and have the Tuledarians take over large chunks of the unruled lands between here and there".
Sergeant Blufont nods in agreement with that as in the distance, they see an airship from their fleet rising up over the city and head south.
"Looks like the first lot is off" says the experienced sergeant, the lead scout nods to that as she too sees the airship transporting their fellow Farqian soldiers back to their homeland.
"Come on you lot" says Maiya Garney to her squad, followed by "We better hurry up, don't want to miss our ship".
And the infiltration squad led by the scout Garney increase their pace as they head through the streets of the capital of the city-state of Tuledare, and make their way to their departure point.
Meanwhile, back just to the east of the city center, in the quiet neighbourhood where the cathedral of Kaēvin is located.
Jovan Garney the cleric turns where he's been standing at the open front gates for sometime, as the experienced guardsman Oldham has just walked over and quietly asked him "Everything alright father?".
The teenage cleric faintly smiles, and replies with "Everything's fine Oldham" the powerful young cleric looks across the large courtyard to the cathedral itself, which is now his home here in the city of Tuledare, and quietly adds "In fact it's more than fine".
Then Jovan Garney wishes Oldham, and Sammit who has also made his way out of the gatehouse, a peaceful day on duty.
And the powerful young cleric originally from the Lands Farque, the soldier of the god Kaēvin, walks back to the cathedral on this cold autumn morning in the city of Tuledare.
Author's Note: Here ends "Soldier Of Gods". The main storyline returns in "Mercenary Tales".
